::: we have finished recording and mixing 2 (two!) entire new albums
by the young savant devendra banhart. the first album, entitled
"rejoicing in the hands" will be released by ygr in late april. the
second album is set for release in late september. we recorded all
this material at the old southern house of lynn bridges on the
alabama/georgia border, using fine vintage gear and the natural
acoustics of the living room where devendra played his songs. it's a
natural step forward from devendra's previous "handmade" recordings.
better sound, but definitely not sterile or slick in any way. his
performances are amazing. we did a series of (generally sparse)
overdubs up here in brooklyn, and the final result is, in my mind
anyway, just amazing. it's an honor to have been involved in this
project! the songs (32 in total, culled from a trove of 57 we chose
from) are simply stunning - ranging from devendra's patented magical
whimsy to deeply soulful ballads. I'm so proud of this kid!!!!
